Personal:

Born 1972 in north central Wisconsin

Married for 11 yrs to very supportive non-running wife. Two children : Fiona, 6 (in picture) and Elliott (2 yrs)

Co-Race Director of  Delano Park 12 Hour Run (www.delano12.com). President of River City Runners (www.rivercityrunners.org)

3 cats and 1 dog (chocolate lab)

In high school, I was an slightly overweight , badly asthmatic J.V. cross country runner.  I enjoyed being part of the team but never excelled.   The summer after my freshman year in college I decided to run a marathon.  6 weeks later I ran a 3:11 at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth (1991) and I was hooked on long distance running where my asthma wasn't as much of a factor.

Felt good for being day 2 after marathon.  My quads feel great.  I think the best they've felt after a hard marathon -  must be something to the CWX shorts.

Managed 8:14 on the final mile.

Went home in the morning for Elliott's intake into hospice.  Numbing.    Their services will be a good thing for Elliott and Liza.   Elliott now has a dedicated nurse who will visit him at home a couple times a week.  He is slowly slipping away mentally  but he is comfortable and content.  Hospice will help us keep him comfortable.   We don't know how long the process will take - 6 months, 1 yr, 2yrs, ???

After all of this, I needed a run so while Liza napped with Elliott , I went around the neighborhood (my refuge and Elliott St. Loop).  Felt weak but felt better afterwards

Rainy and chilly

I almost did two bad things.

1) break my streak of not running on the treadmill ( 42 weeks)

2) break in my brand new trail shoes on the treadmill

Luckily, once I got my running clothes on , the rain lightened a bit and stuck to the roads and trails around work.

I always seem to botch nutrition on a mid afternoon run.  I never want to eat lunch and today I thought the big breakfast at 8:30am would hold me.  Nope...  I will eventually learn my lesson.

Run was good otherwise.  Got a chance to try out my new CWX tights.

Chilly and windy day.  Reminded me of last Saturday.

Trying to fight off a cold.   Have a cough and chest congestion.

My brother attempted a 70 mile bike race through the snow in Phillips, WI today.  It was on snowmobile trails-  rough going.  He completed 15 miles in 5 hours and then dropped out.   It was a bike/run/ski option race.  All competing with one another.  Very soft snow.   Some bikes had 6" wide tires and made better progress.

Hope conditions in Duluth on Jan 2 are better.
