Personal:

Born 1972 in north central Wisconsin

Married for 11 yrs to very supportive non-running wife. Two children : Fiona, 6 (in picture) and Elliott (2 yrs)

Co-Race Director of  Delano Park 12 Hour Run (www.delano12.com). President of River City Runners (www.rivercityrunners.org)

3 cats and 1 dog (chocolate lab)

In high school, I was an slightly overweight , badly asthmatic J.V. cross country runner.  I enjoyed being part of the team but never excelled.   The summer after my freshman year in college I decided to run a marathon.  6 weeks later I ran a 3:11 at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth (1991) and I was hooked on long distance running where my asthma wasn't as much of a factor.

turning cold and windy.   Felt good to get back out for a run.

Had 25 minutes to run at lunch as I needed to get to a 1pm meeting.

After warmup, did four 1/4 mile repeats on the back straightaway road at work.  I got successively faster each one.   91,80,78, and 76 seconds.  I doubt I could have gone faster a 5th one.

Its cooled off.  Actually had a little sleet during the run but it was short lived.

Long work day.   7am to 10pm.  Very unusual.  I needed to get an operating standard written for a new process.   Its the sort of thing you need long stretches without interuption.  Late nights at the office are perfect.

Ran the paved roads at work.  Went over and back the hill to the PVDF plant twice.  Middle 3.5 miles was at 7:00 pace.  Felt comfortable but hard.

Easy run at lunch.    Racing a 5K tomorrow.  Spent extra time stretching after a 1 mile warmup.

Ran the Re-creation run in Huntsville for the 1st time.  Course consists of 3 out and backs which is unique.  This made it nice to keep up on how Jon Elmore was doing.  He moved between second and third the entire race and was out kicked by Marty Clarke at the end.

My Garmin was dead so this was the first race is quite awhile that I didn't have it to help pace.  I normally run the same speed as Mike Greene and Brooke Pruitt (top woman) so I paced off them for the 1st mile.  I ended pulling ahead of them there and finished 10-20 seconds ahead of them.

For my first 5K since last September, I was pleased.  I felt good.  Tried out my new racing flats.  ASICS Ohana racers.  Like 'em.  I haven't had flats since high school (nearly 20 years ago).

I'm now optimistic that I can break 19 min at the Senior Cup since its a little flatter and I'll have a little more speed training completed.
