Born 1972 in north central Wisconsin

Married for 11 yrs to very supportive non-running wife. Two children : Fiona, 6 (in picture) and Elliott (2 yrs)

Co-Race Director of  Delano Park 12 Hour Run (www.delano12.com). President of River City Runners (www.rivercityrunners.org)

3 cats and 1 dog (chocolate lab)

In high school, I was an slightly overweight , badly asthmatic J.V. cross country runner.  I enjoyed being part of the team but never excelled.   The summer after my freshman year in college I decided to run a marathon.  6 weeks later I ran a 3:11 at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth (1991) and I was hooked on long distance running where my asthma wasn't as much of a factor.

commute to work.

Got out of the house before 5am so I did the morning run entirely in the dark.  It was fine other than the sections through the industrial park where there was traffic.  I kept having to hop onto the shoulder which was uneven.  It'd be nice to have seen where I was stepping.  Made it in 1:17:29 for 9.34 miles (8:18/mile pace).  I ran all the way down 16th Ave to 7th St which turned out to be more direct than my more scenic route.   Got a good whiff at the chicken plant which reminded me of my youth when my dad had us butcher chickens.  Not a guts smell but the odor of dipping headless chickens in boiling water right before you defeather them.  Very distinctive odor.  not unpleasant.

It rained during the day but I missed it all on the way back.  Just humid with some slick spots on the road.  Ran fairly hard from the start.  Ended up running a little farther (didn't cut across Fort Decatur lawn and down prospect). Total mileage 9.52 in 1:08:10  (7:10/mile pace).  Had to come to a dead stop waiting for cars at a few points (Beltline, Hwy 24, and central parkway) so I probably lost 30 seconds.  Anyway, it was my fastest commute yet.  Felt decent.  My achilles and one hamstring were complaining just a bit though.  They'll get over it.

Feel pretty good about the 15K this weekend since I did that distance twice today.  I have a decent shot to get close to 1 hr.

Eric,

I am thinking about coming home this weekend and running back-to-back long runs of 20-30 miles on Friday night and Saturday morning, and I thought I'd let you know in case you needed some miles. I think the route is going to be from my house to Pt. Mallard, running the trail there, then back, maybe tacking on a little in there somewhere. Saturday morning is the Decatur XC meet, so I thought I'd run over to Pt. Mallard again and watch that, filling in miles throughout. No pressure, but I thought you might want to know; I'm going to post the same thing on Jon's blog.

Later.

thanks. I'll be over at MonteSano doing the 15K Sat morning so I'll be resting a little on Friday. Sounds like a great trek. The CC meet will be fun. Cheer Lynn on for me.

Will do, and good luck at the 15k!
