Born 1972 in north central Wisconsin

Married for 11 yrs to very supportive non-running wife. Two children : Fiona, 6 (in picture) and Elliott (2 yrs)

Co-Race Director of  Delano Park 12 Hour Run (www.delano12.com). President of River City Runners (www.rivercityrunners.org)

3 cats and 1 dog (chocolate lab)

In high school, I was an slightly overweight , badly asthmatic J.V. cross country runner.  I enjoyed being part of the team but never excelled.   The summer after my freshman year in college I decided to run a marathon.  6 weeks later I ran a 3:11 at Grandma's Marathon in Duluth (1991) and I was hooked on long distance running where my asthma wasn't as much of a factor.

Power out at home after brief thunderstorm.  Limb down and hot wire strewn across backyard.  Nice time for candles and a run.  Went on 16th ave over to Old Decatur and then back home via bike bath, Park Place Subdivision, and the alley behind Pennylane.  Nice Run.      DU was working on the line when I got back.  Power back on a little after 9pm.

Meeting with Jim Barnett from Toray on Friday to discuss a 5k to benefit Rebuilding together.     There is good potential for a course at Wilson Morgan + surrounding neighborhoods.

Ran the 1 mile and 2 mile  .

Going to take it easy on Friday .  Eurocross 5K/8K on Saturday.

Fiona and I went to Huntsville for the Eurocross.  With its grass, haybales, muddy stream crossings, and single track  , it is always the slowest and most fun 5K of the year.   Finished in under 22 minutes.  The streams were especially hard this year -  in the 5K there are 10 stream crossings and I had to get on my hands and knees to get out of it each time.  In prior years, I was able to get through it with out ever putting my hands down (just powering out of the water).   The crossings must be getting deeper every year the race is run.

I had planned on doing the companion 8K as well but I let Fiona choose whether to watch me do the 8K or cross the streams twice.  After initally saying 8K, she eventually was up to her waist and slogged through the muck while holding my hand.

Hot afternoon run over to point mallard. and on the trails.   Didn't push it.  Felt good.

In past runs, I've found that running the alley's is easier in the heat.  I ran another one over there.  Of the 1.5 miles over to the park, a good 1/2 mile or more is on trail or alleyway.

Evening run over to point mallard.  Ran a few laps and then back via the powerline along pennylane.  The powerline was so well kept up in places I was marveling at how people took ownership in land that belonged to the power company.  Once I got back home, I looked up the owners and saw that it was private property.  Oh well.   Only the alley road is public.

Felt decent.  Not trying to push it . Settled in to 8:00-8:15/mile pace.

Easy evening run in the rain.  Found more alleys and grass to run on.   I probably only ran 2 miles pavement at the most.  Nice change of pace.

Not trying to set any speed records.

My goals right now are to get down closer to "racing" weight (~155-160 lbs) and build my mileage.  Adding in speed work would be asking too much of my body and willpower at this point.

Did a short 2 mile run this morning and then took a run on the Sunset Drive path along Lake Guntersville.  I was over there to watch Fiona's "graduation" from swimming lessons.  After 8 days, Fiona did a decent rendition of the front crawl, back stroke, butterfly, and breast stroke.  Best of all she has had a huge confidence boost with the water.

Morning long run.  Tried to get as far from home as possible to avoid the temptation of cutting the run short due to the heat.   Got a boost at mile 12 - snickers bar and cold gatorade from the gas station across from BK on the beltline.   I had gone the 2 Gu Packets and three water bottles (that wasn't enough).

Air temp wasn't too hot yet -  85F but it was really humid.   I lost five pounds during the run which is typical.

I saw John Bolding at 13.5 miles  and he looked fresh as a daisy-  just striding along shirtless showing no strain .  At the time, I took solace in the guess that he was just getting started but in all likelihood he was returning from a 10 miler over to Pt.Mallard.

Hot today.  Lunch run was at 94F.   This 4.5 miler was about the limit for one water bottle at this temp.

Ran home from work.   Didn't feel particularly strong but I got home.

It had just rained hard so it wasn't particularly hot but really humid.

This link has a picture of a truck I saw disabled about 2.5 miles from home at the corner of 2nd St. and Central Parkway.  I thought it was pretty funny so I snapped a picture.

Lunch run- felt cooler because it was cloudy.  Air temp still 90F.

Evening - did the 1 and 3 miles at the RCR family fun runs on the trails.  Felt decent.   5:45   and then 18:45.  Skipped the 2 mile and took Fiona to the water park.

Nice long run.  First 5 was hot (high 80's),  2nd 5 was a thunderstorm, and last 5 was awesome- temps down to the 70's.

Started feeling good late in the run -

Mile 12 8:06

Mile 13 7:46

Mile 14 7:23

Mile 15 6:44

Most of the early miles were around 8:30-9:00.  Ran some through the Decatur Cemetery-  nice roads and hills there.

Ran 6 miles over to pt. mallard to meet Liza and Fiona at the water park.  After meeting them in the parking lot, we locked our keys, cell phones, towels, running shoes, etc.. in car.  I ran home in my TEVA's and swimming suit to get into house with our spare key and drive our car back to the water park.  Very hot!  96F.  Wave pool felt nice.

Drove to Wilson Morgan but locked keys in Accord.  Ran to Honda Dealership and picked up our Honda Pilot.  Drove that back home and got a spare set of keys.  Drove to BigTen Tires to get the Pilot's tire repaired.  Ran from there to Wilson Morgan park. Got Accord. Drove to Big Ten Tires.  Free Repair.  Drove back home  and then ran back to Big Ten Tires to get the Pilot.   Whew!   9 miles of running.

Ran over to the RCR fun runs in evening.  Ran 1 mile hard - 5:40.  Did 3 mile as a hard tempo run- 19:15.  Cool down and then ran back home.

Good day of running.   It hit 94F today.

Long ultra pace run.  Took it a little easy and started at 5pm when it was a little cooler.  I got rained for 30 minutes and saw some lightning in the distance but the thunderstorms skirted around me.  Ended up running at about 51 mile / 8 hour pace.

I've run 48 miles in the last three days.  I'm due for an easy week to finish out June.
