Liza and I were both up with Elliott this morning. I was up at 2am and couldn't get back to sleep. I got up did the dishes, fed the dog, made my lunch, and then headed out for a run at 3:30am. I realized quickly that I need to buy a reflective vest and headlamp. We drove a portion of the run across alabama yesterday which got me all fired up and motivated to run lots of miles. Day 1 will be awesome- lots of variety : resort area, woods, huge switch batched descent, old fabric and hosiery mills, some gravel back roads, houses falling of cliffs, chicken houses , nice views, lush valleys, mostly pretty quiet roads. I got what I thought was a rock in my shoe but stopped to find a 1 1/2 nail stuck in my brand new Kayano 15's . It didn't get to my foot but I had to tug hard to get it out. I carried the nail with me until Delano park where I deposited into the trash. Can't remember that happening before. I ran again at lunch. There was a strong westerly wind blowing all day. It made me think about how it would be to have that in our face the entire western trek across the state. It may feel nice for awhile to keep us cool when it hits the 80's and 90's but it would get old after awhile. |
